​Help Support Tom Svajda's Battle with Cancer

If you know San Diego tennis, you probably know Tom Svajda. He’s a beloved local tennis instructor, teaching hundreds of kids as young as three, as well as teens, adults, and seniors over the past 20 years.

You might also know his sons Zach and Trevor, and their extraordinary tennis talents.

Tom's smiling face and expert coaching have been a fixture on Court 1 at the Pacific Beach Tennis Club for what seems like forever.

By mid-April this year, Tom hadn't felt well for weeks, and anyone could see he was losing weight. He didn't look like the old Tom we all know and love. A doctor told him it was just stress and would resolve itself. Later, he was told it was just a parathyroid problem. Unfortunately, the doctor was wrong.

Tom later learned in addition to his parathyroid issue, he also has stage 4 colon cancer.

Tom's last lesson was April 27. Since then, he's been too weak and in too much pain to teach. That means he's had zero income. His loving wife Anita has missed a lot of work caring for Tom and taking him to countless medical appointments, which will continue to take place.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in an effort to raise money for support. We’re asking you to help Tom and his family stay above water so they don't lose their home and can cover their expenses, and get through their hardships from the medical bills and loss of work. And this will take a huge worry and weight off of Tom so he can focus on his cancer fight.
